The Still - Thursday 3:26

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all. - Psalm 34:17–19

There are seasons when the weight we carry feels too heavy to name. Troubles stack, emotions fray, and the heart feels bruised from the inside out. David reminds us that God is not distant in these moments. He is not waiting for us to get stronger or pull ourselves together. He draws near to the brokenhearted. He listens when we cry out. He meets us in the places we would rather hide. God’s nearness is not a reward for strength — it is a refuge for weakness.

But pain has a way of distorting our vision. When the heart breaks, we can feel abandoned, unseen, or forgotten. Yet Scripture insists on the opposite: God is closest when we feel most fragile. He does not rush us through grief or pressure us to “move on.” He sits with us, steadies us, and carries what we cannot. This is the quiet mercy of God — not the removal of every trouble, but His presence in every trouble.

This is the daily dichotomy: we can interpret our struggle as evidence that God is far away, or we can trust that He is nearer than ever. One path deepens despair. The other opens the heart to comfort, healing, and hope.

Take one honest moment today to acknowledge what hurts. Name it before God — not polished, not edited, just real. Let that act become your prayer. Let it be the place where God meets you.

Your broken heart is not a barrier to God; it is the very place He promises to draw near. He is with you in the trouble, and He will carry you through it.
