The Still - Saturday 5:09

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. — Romans 12:18

Peace is not accidental — it is intentional. Paul acknowledges the complexity of relationships with one honest phrase: “If it is possible.” Some people won’t reconcile. Some situations won’t resolve. Some hearts won’t soften. But Paul shifts the focus away from what others may or may not do and places it squarely on what you can do. “As far as it depends on you.” Peace begins with personal responsibility — the willingness to take the first step, lower the temperature, and choose humility over pride.

Living at peace does not mean avoiding truth or pretending everything is fine. It means refusing to let bitterness take root. It means choosing restraint when you could retaliate. It means offering grace when you could demand justice. Peace is not weakness; it is strength under control. It is the quiet confidence of someone who knows that God sees, God vindicates, and God works in ways we cannot. When you pursue peace, you are not excusing the past — you are protecting your heart for the future.

And peace is not passive. It is active pursuit. It is the discipline of checking your tone, your motives, your expectations, and your reactions. It is the courage to apologize first. It is the humility to listen longer. It is the wisdom to walk away from unnecessary conflict. It is the maturity to say, “I can’t control them, but I can control me.” Peace is not always possible, but peace‑seeking always is. God honors the heart that tries, even when the outcome remains unresolved.

This is the daily dichotomy: The world demands others change first; the aspiring Christian changes what depends on them. The world escalates conflict; Scripture calls us to lower the flame. The world seeks victory; God calls us to seek peace.

Take one small step today: identify one relationship where peace feels strained, and take one action — a message, a prayer, a softened tone, a withheld reaction — that moves the needle toward peace.

Do what depends on you. Pursue peace where you can. And trust God with what lies beyond your reach.
