The Still - Friday 5:01

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. — Luke 6:38

Generosity in God’s economy is never a loss. Jesus doesn’t just command giving — He reveals the nature of God’s return. When you give, God gives back in a way that defies calculation. Not a loose handful. Not a partial scoop. A good measure. A full measure. A measure so abundant it has to be pressed down, shaken, and packed tight so nothing is wasted. God is not stingy with those who are open‑handed. He fills the measure until it overflows.

The imagery is agricultural and vivid. In the marketplace, grain sellers would press down the grain, shake it to remove air pockets, and press again to make room for more. Jesus uses that picture to show the heart of the Father — a God who refuses to give lightly or loosely. He squeezes every bit of blessing into the measure. He gives in a way that reveals His character: abundant, overflowing, generous beyond reason. When you give generously, you receive generously — not as a transaction, but as a reflection of who God is.

And then Jesus adds the principle: with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. Not because God is matching your gift, but because He is shaping your heart. Generosity enlarges the soul. It widens your capacity to receive. It trains you to trust. The measure you use becomes the measure you can hold. When you give freely, you create space for God to pour freely. When you give sparingly, you shrink the container. God honors the measure because the measure reveals the heart.

This is the daily dichotomy: The world says protect what you have; Jesus says release what you hold. The world says giving decreases you; Jesus says giving expands you. The world measures by scarcity; God measures by overflow.

Take one small step today: choose one act of generosity that stretches you — not recklessly, but faithfully. Give in a way that opens your hands and enlarges your heart. Let God fill the measure you offer.

Give freely. Give fully. And watch God press down, shake together, and overflow the measure you placed in His hands
