The Still - Friday 4:17

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share. — 1 Timothy 6:17–18

Money is one of the quickest things to distort perspective. It can lift your confidence or drain your peace, depending on where your hope rests. Paul doesn’t condemn wealth; he confronts the illusion that it can secure your life. Riches are uncertain — markets shift, opportunities change, and what feels stable today can feel fragile tomorrow. So Paul redirects the heart: set your hope on God, not on the resources He places in your hands. Trust the Provider, not the provision.

Then he moves from posture to practice: “do good… be rich in good works… be generous and ready to share.” This is Kingdom stewardship — not measured by accumulation but by participation. Generosity isn’t about the size of the gift; it’s about the freedom of the giver. What you release becomes seed. What you cling to becomes weight. God invites you into a way of living where open hands lead to open horizons, where giving becomes a declaration that your hope is anchored in Him alone.

This is the daily dichotomy: wealth invites you to trust in what you can hold; God invites you to trust in the One who holds you. One path narrows your world; the other expands it.

Take one small step today: choose one act of generosity that costs you something — time, attention, or resources — and offer it quietly. Let it remind your heart that true richness is found not in possession, but in obedience.

The life that is truly life begins where your grip loosens and His grace takes over.
